Mandi, February 10: IAS officer Omkant Thakur posted as SDM Sadar has been attacked by mining mafia. One of his teeth was broken in this attack. The incident happened on Monday evening, when SDM Omkant Thakur had reached Vindravani on the banks of river Beas to take action against illegal mining.
On seeing SDM Sadar, the mining mafia got furious and attacked him. It is being told that the mafia also tried to attack him with stones. The driver of the SDM intervened, which prevented the situation from getting worse. The attackers fled from the spot after the incident.
One of the SDM’s teeth was broken due to the attack with a heavy object. He was taken to Zonal Hospital, Mandi in an injured state, where the dentist treated him. As soon as the information of the incident was received, DC Mandi Apoorva Devgan, ADC Mandi Rohit Rathore, ADM Mandi Dr. Madan Kumar and ASP Mandi Sagar Chandra along with other officers reached the hospital.
DC Mandi Apoorva Devgan said that this attack took place during the action being taken against illegal mining. He clarified that those involved in illegal mining will not be spared under any circumstances. The police is taking strict action in this matter.
ASP Mandi Sagar Chandra said that the main accused in this case has been arrested. The police have registered an FIR and are searching for other accused. The administration is taking strict steps to maintain law and order and stop illegal mining.
