Himachal leading in green hydrogen production, CM laid the foundation stone of first green hydrogen project
Shimla, 06 February: Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu today laid the foundation stone of North India’s first one megawatt capacity green hydrogen plant at Dabhota in Nalagarh tehsil of Solan district. He said that this ambitious project of Rs 9.04 crore is being developed by Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Limited in joint aegis of Oil India Limited. He directed the officials to complete this project within a time period of one year.
On this occasion, the Chief Minister reiterated the commitment to establish Himachal Pradesh as the first green energy state of the country by March 2026. He said that the Dabhota green energy plant would prove to be a milestone in the continuous journey of renewable energy of the state. He said that this innovative initiative with the efforts of Himachal Pradesh will establish Himachal as a leader in the field of renewable and renewable energy. Realizing the vision of a green energy state, the state government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Oil India Limited on April 26, 2023. Under which work will be done towards the development of solar energy, geothermal energy and compressed biogas.
He said that after detailed assessment for this plant, 4 thousand square meters of land has been selected in Dabhota. As a green hydrogen initiative under the state’s detailed action plan, this project demonstrates the government’s commitment to sustainable energy solutions. This plant will ensure the production of hydrogen using renewable energy sources through electrolysis using alkaline potassium hydroxide solution as electrolyte. This method will reduce greenhouse gas emissions and create a clean energy ecosystem.
He said that this plant has the capacity to produce 423 kg of green hydrogen per day, which will require 13 liters of water for the production of one kg of hydrogen. The water requirement will be met through tubewells in the form of underground water. During the production process, about 52.01 units of electricity will be consumed for every kg of hydrogen. The plant is expected to produce 1,54,395 kg of green hydrogen annually. He said that the state government is progressing towards achieving the target of 500 MW solar power.
On this occasion, MLAs Hardeep Singh Bawa, Ram Kumar Chaudhary, Sanjay Awasthy and Vinod Sultanpuri, HPSIDC Vice President Vishal Chambyal, Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Managing Director Harikesh Meena, Director (Personnel and Finance) Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Limited Shivam Pratap Singh, Indian Oil Limited CMD Dr. Ranjit Rath, Deputy Commissioner Manmohan Sharma and Superintendent of Police Baddi Vinod Dhiman and other dignitaries were present.
