Shimla, January 31: The Telangana government has shown keen interest in developing hydropower projects in Himachal Pradesh. On Thursday, Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka met with Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu to formally present a letter of interest for two major projects — the SELI HEP (400 MW) and MIYAR HEP (120 MW). This move marks the beginning of Telangana’s efforts to collaborate with Himachal in harnessing the state’s hydropower potential, with a focus on sustainable energy production.
During the meeting, Deputy Chief Minister Vikramarka urged the Himachal government to provide a draft Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for further review and consideration. He emphasized that Telangana would initiate the required steps to finalize and sign the MoU at the earliest, signaling their commitment to moving forward with the proposed hydropower projects in Himachal Pradesh.
The hydropower generated from the SELI HEP and MIYAR HEP projects will be primarily utilized to bolster Telangana’s electricity supply, addressing both current and future energy demands. This initiative forms part of the state’s broader strategy to enhance its power generation capacity and ensure a reliable and sustainable energy source to meet the growing needs of its population, according to an official release.
In response to the Himachal Pradesh government’s call for proposals to implement 22 hydroelectric projects under the Build-Own-Operate-Transfer (BOOT) model, a delegation of senior officials from Telangana engaged in discussions with the Secretary of the Department of Power, Himachal Pradesh. The team also visited the SELI HEP (400 MW) and MIYAR HEP (120 MW) project sites for a detailed inspection, further demonstrating Telangana’s commitment to exploring these potential projects for energy generation.
