Bribe charges against ED officer, investigation intensified
In this case, the ED has intensified this action after its own former assistant director was accused of bribery. Some time ago, the operators of private educational institutions had alleged in a press conference that the then assistant director of ED, Vishaldeep, had demanded a bribe of Rs 25 crore from them. It was said that arrest could have been avoided only by giving bribe. After these allegations, CBI started investigation and now ED is also collecting evidence afresh.
CBI action, two officers arrested
CBI first arrested Vishaldeep’s brother in this case and recovered Rs 55 lakh in cash during the raid. Vishaldeep kept dodging CBI for many days, but after 18 days he was arrested from Mumbai.
Another big revelation in this scam happened when CBI also arrested its DSP Balbir Singh. It is alleged that Balbir Singh had demanded 10 percent commission in the bribe amount. Balbir Singh, who was arrested from Delhi on January 20, was produced in the court on January 21 from where he was sent on one-day police remand.
Let us tell you that between the years 2013 and 2019, private educational institutions embezzled Rs 266 crore by manipulating the scholarships of Dalit students. In this fraud, scholarship amount of 2.38 lakh students was embezzled.
