Shimla, January 31: Dinesh Kumar, a distinguished officer with the Himachal Home Guard and Civil Defense Department, is set to be honored with the prestigious President’s Award for his exemplary services. This recognition, announced on January 26, has been confirmed by Arvind Parashar, the Deputy Director General of Home Guard. His remarkable dedication to his work has made him a role model, and the announcement has created a wave of happiness in his hometown of Junga.
Previous Accolades: DGP Disc Award
Before receiving the President’s Award, Dinesh Kumar had already been recognized for his exceptional service when he was awarded the DGP Disc on Home Guard Foundation Day on December 6, 2024. This latest honor further highlights his long-standing commitment and contribution to the Home Guard service.
Over 30 Years of Service to the Home Guard
Dinesh Kumar hails from Kadiyar, a village in the Junga area. He began his career in the Home Guard and Civil Defense Department in 1993, starting as a jawan. Through his hard work and dedication, he rose through the ranks, becoming a section leader in 1995, platoon commander in 1999, and eventually company commander in 2016. He now serves as a battalion administrative officer at the Himachal Home Guard Headquarters. His 30 years of service reflect his strong commitment to his duties.
A Leader in Disaster Relief Operations
Kumar’s contributions extend beyond regular duty, particularly in the field of disaster response. Between 2005 and 2016, he served as an instructor at the Departmental Training Center in Junga, preparing his peers for challenging situations. He has been actively involved in crucial tasks such as temple security, police duties, traffic management, election operations, and disaster relief. One of his most notable contributions was during the landslide caused by a cloudburst at Summerhill Shiv Bari Temple in Shimla in 2023. As the team leader of the operation, Kumar played a critical role in the recovery efforts, helping with the removal of bodies and coordinating relief operations.
His efforts have also extended to public safety, where he has conducted mock drills and awareness campaigns to educate the public on disaster preparedness and prevention.
