Cervix cancer screening will begin in health centers

Sirmaur, January 27: In Himachal Pradesh’s Sirmaur district, the Health Department has identified health centers for screening women for cervix cancer, where screening for this cancer can now be started.

Chief Medical Officer (Sirmaur) Dr. Ajay Pathak said that cervix cancer is one of the main cancers in women and it is often found in fifteen to eighteen women in a population of about one lakh.

He said that a pilot project is being run in the district under the joint aegis of National Health Mission (NHM) and Mamta Health Institute, under which six PHCs and twenty-four sub-centers have been selected for cancer screening.

He said that ASHA workers will mobilize people in this and women will be called to the health check-up camps organized in all these health centers.

He said that the department’s goal is to screen all women above the age of thirty years and the department has set a target of screening twenty-four thousand women.
