The CBI Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) was arrested following his interrogation in relation to a bribery case tied to the alleged Himachal Pradesh scholarship scam. Singh was subsequently presented before the Special CBI Court in Chandigarh, where he was granted a one-day remand for further investigation.

On Monday, Singh was called to the CBI office in Chandigarh for questioning; however, he was admitted to a government hospital in Chandigarh after experiencing health issues.

According to sources within the CBI, Singh was arrested after the agency corroborated the allegations made against him by Vishal Deep, the Assistant Director of the Enforcement Directorate (ED).

On December 22, 2024, the CBI filed two FIRs against Vishal Deep following complaints from Bhupinder Kumar Sharma, chairman of Dev Bhumi Group of Institutions in Una, and Rajneesh Bansal, chairman of Himalayan Group of Professional Institutions in Sirmour. The complainants accused Deep and other ED officials of soliciting bribes in exchange for not arresting them in connection with cases filed against their institutions.

However, Deep claimed that during his investigation into the proceeds of crime related to the alleged Himachal Pradesh scholarship scam, he was allegedly approached by Singh and the complainant in one of the FIRs. They reportedly tried to bribe him in exchange for favoring the complainant by easing the charges and refraining from making any arrests.
