In this series, the annual Gustor festival was organized at Dorje Drak Monastery located in Panthaghati, Shimla.

This festival, which is celebrated for ten days, is celebrated after harvesting the crop. During this time people pray for a good harvest and prosperity in the coming year and this festival associated with Buddhist traditions helps in preserving the cultural heritage.

The Gustor festival is usually celebrated in the winter months, especially in December or January.

On this occasion people spend time with each other and celebrate happiness.

Traditional music, dance and various rituals are organized in this festival.

Cham dance

The Cham dance performed by Buddhist monks is the center of attraction of the festival. This dance performed wearing a traditional mask is considered a symbol of the victory of good over evil.

The monks wear colorful costumes and intricate masks which depict different gods and goddesses and other powers.

The vice president of the monastery said that this mask is not only a part of art but it also has spiritual significance.

The Gustor festival is also an attraction for tourists from India and abroad. Tourists from foreign countries and local people praised the festival and said that they are enjoying the Gustor festival to the fullest.
