The design for this project was created by Him Chatterjee, while the beautification work in the tunnel was carried out by Una’s Sunil Kumar Suri. The tunnel now features painted models of various HRTC buses, including the 1958 Kullu-Manali bus, the 1974 bus, the 2004 Volvo bus, the 2008 Volvo bus, the 2016 electric bus, and a standard HRTC bus model. These paintings beautifully showcase the evolution of HRTC buses over the years.

A budget of Rs 19 lakh 28 thousand 796 was allocated for the beautification project, which was entrusted to Sunil Kumar Suri. The project commenced on November 15, 2024, and was completed by January 10, 2025. Sunil Suri mentioned that high-quality paints were used, ensuring their durability for 7 to 10 years. Working in the tunnel was challenging due to its busy nature, but most of the work was carried out at night to minimize disruption.

HRTC Managing Director, Rohan Chand Thakur, stated that HRTC celebrated its 50th anniversary on October 2, 2024. To mark this milestone, they wanted the tunnel to symbolize HRTC’s history and meet passengers’ expectations. In this beautification project, great care was taken to incorporate the culture and colors of Himachal. Thakur added, “This work not only showcases the history of HRTC to the public but also adds a new attraction to this busy area of Shimla.”
