Shimla (Himachal Pradesh) [India], January 10 (Diary Times): The Himachal Pradesh Government and the French Development Agency have formalized an agreement (MOU) worth 100 million euros (approximately ₹900 crores) for the Disaster Risk Reduction and Preparedness Project. The primary goal of this initiative is to mitigate the impact of natural disasters in the state. The signing ceremony was attended by Chief Secretary Prabodh Saxena, Additional Chief Secretary Omkar Sharma, and Additional Secretary and Project Director Nishant Thakur.

During the event, Additional Chief Secretary Omkar Sharma highlighted that Himachal Pradesh has been repeatedly affected by natural disasters. In light of this, he emphasized the significance of the newly signed ₹900 crore MOU with the French Development Agency, aimed at strengthening the state’s disaster management capabilities.

The project encompasses several key initiatives, including the implementation of an early warning system for natural disasters, enhancing flood forecasting, providing climate resilience support for agriculture, and organizing extensive disaster response training programs. Additionally, bio-engineering nurseries will be established to aid in mitigation efforts. Set to be completed over the next five years, the project aims to significantly bolster the state’s disaster preparedness and response capabilities.
