Prof. Rajeshwar Singh Chandel, the Vice Chancellor of Dr. YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry (UHF), Nauni, has been conferred the prestigious title of Honorary Life Fellow by the Entomological Society of India (ESI). This honour was awarded to him during the National Symposium on ‘Frontiers in Entomology-2025’ and the ESI Foundation Day event in New Delhi on Tuesday.
Established in 1938, the Entomological Society of India is one of the largest and most respected professional organizations in the country, dedicated to advancing research in the field of entomology. The society plays a crucial role in promoting the study of insects and their impact on agriculture, publishing the Indian Journal of Entomology and various technical publications for researchers and practitioners.
Prof. Chandel is widely recognized for his extensive work in insect-pest management, honey bee ecology, pesticide toxicology, and promoting natural farming practices. His contributions have been vital in advocating for sustainable agricultural practices, significantly boosting farmers’ incomes. Notably, he played an instrumental role in the successful implementation of the Himachal Pradesh government’s flagship program, the Prakritik Kheti Khushhal Kisan Yojana (PK3Y), which has benefited over 1.70 lakh farmers by encouraging them to adopt natural farming methods.

Since taking on the role of Vice Chancellor at UHF in May 2022, Prof. Chandel has led more than 20 national and state-funded research projects and authored over 200 research papers in reputed journals. His collaborations with both national and international institutions have produced valuable insights into sustainable farming practices.
In addition to his academic achievements, Prof. Chandel has contributed his expertise to several national committees, including the National Advisory Committee for Promoting Natural Farming and the General and Governing Bodies of the ICAR Society. He has also chaired and participated in numerous important committees, such as the QRTs and Search-cum-Selection Committees for Vice-Chancellors at various universities.
Prof. Chandel expressed his deep gratitude to the Entomological Society of India for the honour, stating that this recognition further fuels his commitment to improving the lives of farmers across the country. His work continues to empower farmers, particularly women, and promotes sustainable agricultural practices, not just in Himachal Pradesh but across mountainous regions and beyond.
