Police and Forest Department Ramp Up Efforts After Midnight Incident in Jalandhar Lahar

Kangra, January 8: A shocking case of illegal tree felling has come to light in the Jalandhar Lahar Gram Panchayat area, located in the Dehra Assembly constituency of Kangra district. Late on Monday night, unidentified individuals cut down nine Khair trees without permission in the forest of Jalandhar Lahar. The crime occurred under the cover of darkness, but local residents noticed the suspicious activity and quickly alerted dehra police.

At the time of the incident, a patrol team from Dehra Police was also in the vicinity. Upon receiving the tip-off, the team rushed to the location, with local villagers joining them in a bid to catch the perpetrators. However, the culprits managed to escape under the cover of night, leaving behind several tools at the scene, including 74 Khair moustaches, two saws, and one axe.

The forest department responded swiftly to the situation, reaching the spot shortly after and seizing the left-behind equipment. The total value of the 74 Khair moustaches is estimated to be around ₹3.5 lakh. Police Station In-Charge, Sandeep Pathania, confirmed that all recovered items were handed over to the forest department for further action.

Following the incident, both the police and the forest department have increased security measures in the area and intensified efforts to track down the responsible individuals. Authorities have vowed to take stringent action against those involved to prevent further illegal activities in the region.

This incident has raised concerns about the growing threat to wildlife and environmental conservation efforts in the region. Local residents have called for greater awareness and stricter enforcement to combat such crimes and protect the area’s natural resources.
