The Himachal Pradesh government has approved an allocation of ₹85 crore for the procurement of advanced 3-Tesla MRI machines, which will be installed at three prominent medical institutions: Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) in Shimla, Tanda Medical College, and Nerchowk Medical College. These state-of-the-art diagnostic tools are set to significantly improve the quality of medical diagnostics within the state.

Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu highlighted that the introduction of the 3-Tesla MRI machines would provide more accurate diagnoses of complex medical conditions, thereby ensuring better treatment outcomes for patients. The Chief Minister reiterated the government’s dedication to upgrading healthcare infrastructure and announced a larger investment of ₹1,500 crore to modernize and equip government healthcare institutions with advanced medical technologies.

Presently, a lack of sufficient healthcare services in Himachal Pradesh forces around 9.5 lakh residents to seek medical treatment outside the state, leading to an annual economic loss of ₹1,350 crore. To address this issue, the state government is focusing on modernizing healthcare facilities at every level of care.

As part of these efforts, Community Health Centers (CHCs) will soon be equipped with semi-automatic laboratories, ultrasound machines, and ICU facilities. Additionally, civil and zonal hospitals will receive fully automatic auto-analyzers, digital X-ray machines, ultrasound devices, and modular operation theatres. The government is also working to establish in-house laboratories for more accurate diagnostics and improved patient care.

Chief Minister Sukhu criticized the previous BJP-led government for its neglect of the healthcare sector, which led to the decline of medical services and turned government hospitals into mere referral centers. He assured the public that under the Congress government, there will be a focus on reversing this situation, providing high-quality healthcare services, and improving the overall health infrastructure in the state.
