Investigation Underway into Allegations of Fraudulent Water Tanker Payments

Shimla, January 02: The alleged drinking water supply scam in the Theog assembly constituency has garnered significant attention, with local MLA and Congress national spokesperson Kuldeep Singh Rathore pledging stringent action against those involved. Rathore firmly stated that corruption will not be tolerated and promised that anyone found guilty will face legal consequences.

Addressing the media in Shimla, Rathore revealed that he had directed the District Deputy Commissioner, the local SDM, and officials from the Jal Shakti Department to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation into the allegations. “While initial claims and emerging facts raise concerns, we are awaiting the official investigation report before drawing any conclusions,” Rathore stated.

The controversy surrounds the supply of drinking water through tankers during a drought in the Theog sub-division between February and June of the previous year. Allegations have surfaced that contractors were paid for water tankers that never delivered water to specific locations. It is reported that approximately ₹1.13 crore was paid for the service in 2024, with former MLA Rakesh Singha raising concerns that some vehicle numbers listed as water tankers were actually registered to motorcycles and cars.

Rathore acknowledged the seriousness of the situation and assured the public that such irregularities would not be ignored. When asked about the possibility of canceling licenses for contractors involved, he stated that any actions would be taken based on the investigation’s findings.

Singha’s allegations have further fueled the controversy, highlighting potential mismanagement of resources. Rathore reiterated his commitment to holding the guilty accountable, declaring, “The culprits will be severely punished, and legal action will be taken as per the law.”

The case has sparked concerns over the transparency of public contracts and the proper allocation of resources, especially in times of emergency. The outcome of the ongoing investigation will determine the full scope of the irregularities and those responsible for the fraudulent activities.
