Shimla, January 02: The Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board Limited (HPSEBL) is taking significant steps to enhance its financial stability by investing in solar energy production. The board has announced plans to establish grid-connected solar photovoltaic (PV) plants on its vacant land and non-residential buildings.
The initiative was approved during a meeting of the Board’s Whole Time Directors and will employ the Renewable Energy Service Company (RESCO) model. This approach allows HPSEBL to avoid upfront capital expenses for the installation, operation, and maintenance of the solar plants. Instead, the board will procure power at reduced rates while making use of its underutilized land and rooftops.

In the first phase of this project, HPSEBL has identified locations capable of generating up to 19 MW of solar power. These plants, which will include both ground-mounted and rooftop systems, will be installed across various electricity circles and divisional offices. The board has already initiated the bidding process to expedite the project’s implementation.
With this shift to solar energy, HPSEBL aims to not only mitigate its financial challenges but also support Himachal Pradesh’s renewable energy objectives, contributing to a more sustainable future for the state.
