Aims to Boost Agricultural Sustainability and Provide Fair Compensation

Shimla, December 30: In line with its promises, the Himachal Pradesh government has launched a cow dung purchase initiative across ten districts, fulfilling one of its key guarantees. The initiative, which began on December 11 to mark the completion of two years in office, has already seen the purchase of 378 quintals of cow dung from 100 farmers. The program has been implemented in all districts except the tribal areas of Kinnaur and Lahaul-Spiti.
Agriculture Minister Chander Kumar informed that cow dung is being purchased in 5 and 10-kilogram packets, with contractors receiving ₹5 per kilogram for collection and transportation. The government intends to sell the collected cow dung at a rate of ₹11-12 per kilogram, although the purchase price for farmers was initially set at ₹2 per kilogram. Given the positive response, the rate has now been increased to ₹3 per kilogram.

The government is open to revising the price further, with discussions about possibly raising it to ₹5-8 per kilogram depending on the continued demand and success of the scheme. This move not only aims to provide additional income to farmers but also supports the state’s commitment to promoting sustainable agricultural practices.
