Multiple Drugs from Himachal Pradesh and Across India Found to Be Substandard

Solan, 28 December: In a significant development, samples of 111 medicines, including 27 produced in Himachal Pradesh, have failed quality testing across the country. The Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) issued an alert on Friday, highlighting the failure of several medicine samples. The affected medications span a variety of uses, including treatments for blood pressure, pain management, antibiotics, kidney issues, and other medical conditions.

On Thursday, CDSCO’s laboratory tests revealed that 41 medicine samples had failed, with 16 of them being manufactured in Himachal Pradesh. In addition, 70 more samples were found substandard in CDSCO’s state laboratories across India, including 11 from Himachal Pradesh.

The highest number of failed samples came from the BBN (Baddi, Barotiwala, Nalagarh) industrial belt in Himachal Pradesh, a region known for its pharmaceutical production. Notably, three samples from one particular drug company based in this region were found to be substandard this time. This company had already faced issues earlier in the year when four of its medicine samples failed.

In response to these failures, the State Drug Controller Department has initiated strict action. A show-cause notice has been issued to the concerned drug companies, and the affected batches of medicines have been recalled from the market. Manish Kapoor, the State Drug Controller, confirmed that notices have been sent to all companies involved, urging them to address the issues with the faulty medicine batches immediately.
