Consignment Linked to Nepal Raises Concerns Over Cross-Border Drug Trade

Solan, December 27: In a significant breakthrough in the ongoing anti-drug campaign, the Solan District Police apprehended a youth from Bihar with 1.212 kilograms of charas. Acting on a tip-off, the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) conducted a raid on a rented room in Kaleen Solan on Thursday and arrested the accused.

The arrested individual has been identified as Dheeraj Kumar Yadav, a 20-year-old resident of Jaini Tola village in West Bihar. During the initial investigation, Yadav revealed that he had arrived in Solan only 4-5 days earlier and was planning to sell charas sourced from Nepal in the region.

Case Details and Legal Proceedings

The accused was living in a rented room in Kaleen Solan when the raid took place. Following the seizure of the contraband, a case was registered against him under Section 20 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the Sadar, Solan Police Station.

On Friday, the accused was presented in court. The Solan Police have initiated further investigations to determine whether the individual is part of a larger drug trafficking network. Superintendent of Police Gaurav Singh has confirmed the arrest and emphasized the department’s commitment to curbing drug-related activities in the district.

Rising Threat of Cross-Border Drug Trade

The revelation that the charas originated from Nepal highlights the growing challenge of cross-border drug trafficking. Authorities are closely examining the accused’s links to potential suppliers and buyers to dismantle any larger network operating in the region.

Police’s Stance on Drug Prevention

The Solan Police have intensified efforts under their special campaign to protect local youth from the scourge of drug addiction. SP Gaurav Singh reiterated the police department’s zero-tolerance policy towards narcotics and urged citizens to report any suspicious activities to help combat the menace.

The arrest serves as a reminder of the ongoing challenges posed by the drug trade and the proactive measures being taken by law enforcement to safeguard communities in Himachal Pradesh.
