Safety Advisory Issued for Travelers as Snowfall and Rain Intensify

Shimla, December 27: Snowfall has begun in the Lahaul and Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh, prompting local authorities to issue a safety advisory for travelers. The District Police have raised concerns about the hazardous road conditions, including slippery surfaces and reduced visibility, which pose significant risks for those venturing out. Travelers are urged to avoid unnecessary journeys and to remain in safe, sheltered locations until the weather improves.

Meanwhile, Shimla and several other areas across the state are experiencing overcast skies, contributing to the winter chill. Light drizzling was observed in Shimla early this morning, which has now ceased. However, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for the region, warning of potential rain and snowfall in the coming days. This alert signals a period of adverse weather that could affect daily life and travel across Himachal Pradesh.

Authorities are advising travelers to carefully plan their trips, keeping in mind the forecasted weather conditions. The police have emphasized the importance of staying informed and ensuring that emergency contact numbers are easily accessible. In their advisory, the District Police highlighted that road conditions deteriorate quickly during snowfall, making travel dangerous due to decreased visibility and slippery surfaces.

A police spokesperson reiterated, “The roads become hazardous during snowfall, significantly increasing the risk of accidents. We are closely monitoring the situation and are fully committed to ensuring the safety of all residents and visitors.”

With the orange alert in place, residents and travelers are encouraged to remain cautious, prioritize safety, and be prepared for any emergencies. The police have assured the public that help will be readily available, stressing that their safety is their top priority during this challenging weather period.
