CM Sukhu Reviews Energy Projects and Promises New Self-Employment Opportunities
Shimla, December 26: Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu recently reviewed the progress of several energy projects in Himachal Pradesh, underscoring the state government’s commitment to harnessing green energy resources. During the review, he highlighted the ongoing efforts to develop sustainable energy infrastructure, including the construction of a one-megawatt green hydrogen project in Nalagarh, Solan district, and a 32 MW solar power project in Pekhubela, Una district, which has been completed in a record six months. Additionally, two more solar projects are under development in Una and are expected to be operational soon.
The Chief Minister also announced a new initiative aimed at creating self-employment opportunities for the state’s youth. He revealed plans to promote hydro power tourism as a means of boosting local employment. A policy will be formulated to support this sector, with a focus on training local youth and power project developers through the Energy Department.

To further support the growth of the state’s energy sector, CM Sukhu directed that ongoing power projects be expedited. He also instructed the re-advertisement of non-responsive hydropower projects to unlock the full hydropower potential of Himachal Pradesh. In addition, the Chief Minister called for the immediate commencement of work on the Devi Kothi and Hail power projects.
The meeting also addressed high-profile cases involving pending dues from JSW, Shanan, and BBMB, which are currently under legal review. CM Sukhu urged concerned officials to pursue these cases efficiently. Furthermore, he instructed a faster pace for the implementation of pump storage projects.
The meeting was attended by Industry Minister Harshwardhan Chouhan, Principal Advisor to the Chief Minister Ram Subhag Singh, and senior officials, including the MD of HPSEBL Sandeep Kumar and Director of the Energy Department Rakesh Prajapati.
