In a significant development, the Karsog police have successfully solved a theft case involving jewellery worth ₹20 lakh, which had remained unsolved for nine months. The incident, which took place in April at Nanj village in the Karsog subdivision, was cracked thanks to the meticulous analysis of mobile dump data. Four individuals, all from Bilaspur district and involved in the junk trade, were arrested in connection with the crime.

The theft was reported by Kundan Lal Sharma, a local resident of Nanj, who, along with his wife, had been undergoing medical treatment at IGMC Shimla. During their stay, they received a call from a niece, alerting them to an open door at their house. Upon their return, Sharma found the house ransacked. The cupboards had been broken into, and valuables including gold and silver ornaments, along with ₹20,000 in cash, were missing.

Following the report, the Karsog police, led by Station In-Charge Mohan Joshi, launched a comprehensive investigation. While early efforts, such as questioning local residents and reviewing CCTV footage, did not yield any useful leads, the breakthrough came from a detailed examination of mobile dump data from the surrounding area. This analysis uncovered a suspicious phone number linked to one of the suspects.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Karsog, Gauravjit Singh, confirmed the arrest of the four suspects from Bilaspur district. After being presented in court, the accused were remanded to five days of police custody. Although the stolen jewellery has yet to be recovered, the police are actively pursuing leads to locate the missing items.

DSP Singh assured that efforts to trace the whereabouts of the stolen goods are ongoing, and investigators are hopeful of making further progress soon.
