IMD Forecasts Widespread Snowfall and Rain from December 27 to 29
Shimla, Dec 25: Himachal Pradesh is preparing for another spell of winter weather as an active Western Disturbance is set to bring widespread snowfall and rain to the state from December 27 to 29, 2024. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted light to moderate snowfall across the high, mid, and adjoining low hills, with the peak snowfall expected on December 28. Popular tourist destinations, including Shimla, are likely to experience a picturesque mix of light snowfall and rain, offering a perfect winter escape just before the New Year.
According to the IMD’s release, “Under the influence of an active Western Disturbance and favorable atmospheric conditions, fairly widespread to widespread rainfall and snowfall activity is very likely to commence over many parts of Himachal Pradesh from the evening/night of December 27, 2024, continuing until the morning/forenoon of December 29, 2024, with the peak activity occurring on December 28, 2024.”
In the plains and lower hills, light to moderate rainfall is expected, with isolated thunderstorms and lightning during the evening and night hours on December 27 and 28. This weather system will not only bring scenic snowfall but also provide much-needed relief from the persistent cold wave and dense fog that has gripped the region. The chilly conditions are expected to ease significantly from December 27, with milder temperatures for the next few days.
For travelers, this is the perfect opportunity to witness Himachal Pradesh in its full winter glory as the landscape transforms into a snowy wonderland. The upcoming weather will enhance the charm of the state, making it an ideal winter getaway.
However, visitors are advised to exercise caution while traveling to higher altitudes, where weather-related disruptions may occur. The anticipated snow and rain spell will not only beautify the region but also bring some respite from the freezing temperatures, creating a perfect balance of picturesque views and milder weather conditions.
