Expansion of Rural Infrastructure to Strengthen Connectivity and Boost Economy
The Central government has approved the inclusion of metalling old and poorly maintained rural roads under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana-IV (PMGSY-IV), a decision announced by Himachal Pradesh’s Public Works Department Minister Vikramaditya Singh. This move follows a formal request from the Himachal Pradesh government to broaden the scope of PMGSY-IV to not only construct new roads but also improve existing ones that are in poor condition.
Expressing his appreciation to Union Minister for Rural Development, Shivraj Singh Chauhan, Minister Vikramaditya Singh highlighted the significant benefits this decision would bring to Himachal Pradesh. The initiative is expected to cover the metalling of approximately 1,000 to 1,500 kilometers of rural roads across the state. This expansion is set to improve the state’s rural infrastructure and enhance connectivity, particularly in its most remote areas.
Singh also provided an update on efforts to restore road connectivity in areas impacted by heavy snowfall. “The Public Works Department is working diligently to clear snow-blocked roads, with sufficient manpower and machinery deployed for swift restoration,” he said, assuring the public that all necessary measures are being taken to restore normalcy.
Additionally, Singh emphasized the importance of ensuring safe and uninterrupted travel for both tourists and locals during the ongoing season, reinforcing the government’s commitment to maintaining robust infrastructure for the tourism sector.
This decision under PMGSY-IV is expected to bring long-term benefits by improving accessibility to remote regions, thus fostering rural development and strengthening the state’s economy.
