Shimla, December 23: In a move aimed at enhancing the tourism experience during the festive season, all shops and commercial establishments in Himachal Pradesh will remain open 24 hours a day from December 23, 2024, to January 5, 2025. This decision, announced by the state government, is in response to the influx of tourists expected to visit the state for New Year celebrations and the ongoing snowfall.

The initiative comes as a significant convenience for both tourists and local businesses, allowing visitors to enjoy seamless shopping experiences at any time of day or night. The state government has issued a notification under the Himachal Pradesh Shops and Commercial Establishments Act, 1969, facilitating this move.

As the snowfall continues, popular destinations like Shimla, Manali, and Dalhousie are seeing a surge in tourist activity. The festive season, marked by the celebrations of Christmas and New Year, is a peak time for the tourism industry. The decision to keep shops open around the clock will not only assist tourists but also benefit local businesses, as the influx of visitors creates increased demand for goods and services.

The government has also made additional arrangements to ensure tourists’ safety, including the deployment of extra police forces at major tourist spots and measures to prevent accidents on slippery roads. These initiatives aim to make the visit more enjoyable and comfortable, with the state government ensuring that tourists receive all the necessary support during their stay.
