The case dates back to 2015 when a local youth, Narveer, was murdered by his own neighbors in Tuiel village, following a violent altercation. Narveer had previously shot and killed his neighbor, Bharat Bhushan, known as Bunty, due to a personal dispute.
In retaliation, a group of villagers, enraged by the death of Bunty, set Narveer’s house on fire and later chased him down, ultimately killing him. His body was discovered about 500 meters from the Tuiel village, hidden in the bushes. This act of violence created a tense atmosphere in the area, leading to the involvement of local police.
The 33 accused individuals were charged under multiple sections of the IPC, including sections 147 (rioting), 148 (rioting with a deadly weapon), 149 (unlawful assembly), 452 (house trespass), 325 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt), and 302 (murder).
All the convicted individuals received sentences of seven years of imprisonment along with fines of Rs 10,000. If they fail to pay the fine, they will be required to serve an additional six months of simple imprisonment.
Additionally, the court imposed penalties under other relevant sections, including Section 440 of the IPC, which mandates three years of rigorous imprisonment. Furthermore, the court directed that each of the 33 accused pay Rs 10,000 as compensation to the widow of the deceased, Virendra Deva. In case of non-payment, an additional six months of simple imprisonment will be enforced.
The case was registered by the Chaupal police station in 2015, and 34 individuals were initially arrested. However, one accused passed away during the trial. The court’s verdict brings closure to a long-drawn case that has been ongoing for nearly nine years, delivering justice to the victim and his family.
District Attorney Mukta Kashyap confirmed that the court had already convicted the accused, and the final punishment, along with the compensation to the deceased’s wife, has now been announced.
