Shimla, December 18: The winter session of the Himachal Pradesh Assembly began in Dharamshala amidst rising tensions, with the opposition accusing the government of rampant corruption. On the first day, MLA Randhir Sharma raised an adjournment motion under Rule 67, calling for a discussion on corruption, which was swiftly accepted by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and approved by the Assembly Speaker.

Opposition leader Jairam Thakur took a firm stance, claiming that the last two years of the current government’s tenure have been marred by widespread corruption. He stated that these allegations are not only being voiced within the Assembly but also in public forums, further undermining the credibility of the government. According to Thakur, the opposition is demanding accountability for these corruption charges, but the government has failed to provide satisfactory answers both inside and outside the legislative chamber.

Thakur also targeted the Chief Minister’s Office, labeling it as the primary center of corruption. He accused the government of suppressing corruption cases, asserting that no meaningful actions are being taken against those involved. The opposition is demanding clarity from the government on why investigations into these cases are stalled and why stringent measures are not being enforced against the wrongdoers.
