Shimla, December 16: Angiography services have been halted at Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital (IGMC) in Shimla, causing significant inconvenience to patients in need of cardiac care. The suspension of this critical service comes as medical supply operators have refused to provide necessary equipment due to outstanding payments under the Himcare and Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Yojana schemes.

These healthcare schemes offer free treatment up to Rs 5 lakh for eligible patients, but with bills worth over Rs 20 crore remaining unpaid, medical suppliers have stopped delivering goods to the hospital. As a result, several scheduled angiography procedures have been postponed. While eight patients were scheduled for angiography on Monday, only four were able to undergo the procedure, as they paid for the equipment out of pocket.

Dr. Rahul Rao, the Senior Medical Superintendent of IGMC, confirmed that the issue has been brought to the attention of the state government and assured that it will be resolved shortly. The halt in treatment has raised concerns about the continued availability of free medical services under these important health schemes.
