Shimla: Himachal Pradesh National Law University (HPNLU), Shimla, has successfully achieved a significant milestone by fully digitizing its marksheets, making them easily accessible through the National Academic Depository (NAD) via the DigiLocker platform. This new digital initiative ensures that over 2,000 students can access and securely validate their academic awards, simplifying the process for all involved.
This move aligns with the guidelines of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, reinforcing HPNLU’s dedication to academic transparency, excellence, and technological progress. It also complies with the University Grants Commission (UGC) mandate, as the university has updated student progress on the Academic Bank of Credits (ABC). This step facilitates greater mobility and flexibility for students across various higher education institutions in India.

The Academic Bank of Credits is a critical component of NEP 2020, enabling students to transfer credits earned across different institutions. This system enhances accessibility and flexibility in the educational system, fostering a more inclusive academic environment. Through NAD, academic progress is securely stored, ensuring it remains easily accessible and transparent for all students.
The NAD initiative is part of the Government of India’s larger effort to create a secure, user-friendly platform for storing and retrieving academic records. By reducing the risks associated with certificate forgery and marksheet duplication, NAD enhances the security and authenticity of educational documents, promoting a fraud-free education ecosystem.
The DigiLocker platform, integrated with NAD, serves as a 24/7 digital repository where students can access and download their marksheets, degrees, diplomas, and other certificates at any time and from anywhere. This integration not only increases convenience for students but also streamlines the verification process for employers, educational institutions, and other stakeholders.
An official from HPNLU remarked, “The implementation of NAD and DigiLocker provides our students with a secure and accessible platform for their academic records. This step is in line with the university’s vision of leveraging technology to enhance transparency and efficiency in academic processes.”
With this innovation, HPNLU students can now easily download their marksheets and other certificates directly through the DigiLocker app, guaranteeing document validity and protecting against fraudulent practices. This move ensures a smooth, secure, and hassle-free experience for all stakeholders involved.
