Himachal Assembly Reintroduces Petition Committee After 28 Years to Ensure Justice for the Public
Shimla – In a landmark move aimed at providing swift justice to the common people, the Himachal Pradesh Assembly has reformed its Petition Committee after a gap of 28 years. This committee will serve as an accessible platform for citizens facing unresolved issues with government departments, offering an alternative to lengthy court proceedings.
The Petition Committee, chaired by Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania, is a significant step towards enhancing transparency and accountability in the state’s administrative system. This body will allow individuals to bring their grievances directly to the Assembly, ensuring that public interest matters receive due attention without the need for protracted legal battles.
A Renewed Focus on Public Access to Justice
The formation of the Petition Committee aims to streamline the resolution of common administrative issues that often go unheard or unresolved. Previously, a similar committee was functional during the sixth and seventh assemblies, but it was not established in subsequent terms. Now, after nearly three decades, the committee is back, marking a pivotal moment for citizens seeking a more efficient route to justice.
The committee members include representatives from both the ruling party and the opposition, underscoring its non-partisan nature. Notable members include Una MLA Satpal Satti, Pachhad’s Reena Kashyap, Dharampur’s Chandrashekhar, and Anuradha Rana from Lahaul-Spiti. The Assembly Secretary, Yashpal Sharma, will serve as the officer of the committee.
A Relief for the Common People
For years, the common man had to approach the courts or endure bureaucratic delays to resolve administrative matters. With the reestablishment of the Petition Committee, Speaker Pathania emphasized, “This initiative will provide a much-needed relief to the common people who have been forced to knock on the doors of the court for matters related to public interest.” The goal is to expedite the resolution of such cases, ensuring that no one is left waiting for justice due to systemic hurdles.
Expediting Administrative Matters
The committee’s role is to tackle grievances that citizens face with various government departments. Whether it’s related to public services, local administrative issues, or unresolved matters with government officials, the Petition Committee aims to offer a quick and efficient resolution. By providing a direct path for grievance redressal, the committee promises to significantly reduce bureaucratic delays and offer timely justice to those in need.
In a state known for its picturesque beauty and scenic landscapes, the introduction of this committee is a major step towards a more people-friendly governance model. It underscores the commitment of the Himachal Pradesh Assembly to ensure the welfare of its citizens, addressing their concerns with transparency, fairness, and expedience.
This is a fresh chapter for the state’s governance, one where the voice of the common man is heard, and timely action is ensured.
