Shimla, 09 December: Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has announced the inclusion of 40,000 new beneficiaries under Himachal Pradesh’s social security pension scheme for the current financial year, marking a significant step towards furthering the welfare of vulnerable populations in the state. This announcement was made during a meeting where the functioning of the Social Justice and Empowerment Department was reviewed.
Strengthening Social Welfare Programs
CM Sukhu reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to the well-being of its citizens, especially those from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. He highlighted the allocation of 30% of additional resources generated through the state budget towards strengthening the social security sector, reinforcing the government’s resolve to provide a safety net for its most vulnerable.
In line with this commitment, the Chief Minister directed the department to further improve accessibility to welfare schemes, instructing that an online platform be developed for easier applications and smoother processing for citizens seeking benefits.
Comprehensive Healthcare for Vulnerable Groups
In addition to expanding pension coverage, CM Sukhu emphasized enhancing healthcare services for specific vulnerable groups. He called for healthcare support for the children of widows and urged that treatment for cancer patients be provided under the Indira Gandhi Sukh Shiksha Yojna, a government initiative aimed at improving health outcomes for the marginalized.
Focus on Maternal Health and Nutrition
The Chief Minister also took a pivotal step toward improving maternal and child health in the state by instructing the department to provide protein-rich nutritional supplements to expectant and lactating mothers through anganwadis. He further proposed the formation of a committee, including the Secretary of Health and the Secretary of Education, to review the nutritional value of food served at anganwadis, ensuring that it meets the required standards for the well-being of mothers and children.
De-Addiction and Special Education Initiatives
In an important development for addiction rehabilitation, CM Sukhu announced the finalization of plans for a modern de-addiction center at Kotla Barog in Sirmaur district, with construction set to begin in January. This center aims to provide comprehensive rehabilitation services to those struggling with addiction issues in the region.
Moreover, the state government is advancing the Centre of Excellence for specially-abled children in Kandaghat, Solan district, with work on the higher education wing of the center set to begin in the first phase. This project will cater to the unique educational needs of specially-abled children, ensuring they have access to quality education and vocational training.
A Vision for Inclusive Development
Chief Minister Sukhu’s announcement reflects a continued focus on inclusive development and social welfare, with a clear strategy to improve living standards for vulnerable sections of society. With a combination of healthcare initiatives, educational advancements, and de-addiction services, the state is working towards creating a more supportive environment for all its citizens, especially those in need.
