Shimla, 09 December: After a long drought, rain and snowfall has been seen in Himachal Pradesh. Especially in Shimla, snowfall has occurred in the month of December after 12 years. Earlier in 2012, snowfall had occurred in Shimla in the first week of December.

Shimla city recorded 2 to 7 centimetres of snowfall yesterday. Koksar in Lahaul Spiti district recorded the highest snowfall of 6 to 7 centimetres. Due to snowfall, 87 roads of the state including a national highway are closed for traffic, which includes most of the roads of Shimla district. Along with this, 457 transformers have also stopped working due to fresh snowfall in entire Himachal Pradesh.

Even today, there is a possibility of light snowfall in the high altitude areas of Himachal Pradesh, while the weather is expected to remain clear from December 10, although fog alert has been issued in some districts.

Meteorological Center Shimla scientist Sandeep Kumar Sharma said that even today there is a possibility of light rain and snowfall in the high altitude areas of the state. During the last 24 hours, rain and snowfall has been recorded in Kinnaur, Lahaul Spiti, Shimla, Chamba, Solan, Bilaspur.

The temperature has dropped by 2 to 3 degrees due to snowfall.

Meanwhile, the first snowfall of the season has brought relief to farmers and apple orchardists belonging to the apple-rich region.

Education Minister Rohit Thakur told reporters in Shimla that there was drought-like situation in the state for a long time, from which there is some relief now. He said that the government is also fully prepared to deal with the snowfall.

So the dry spell of about two and a half to three months has reached its last phase and the wait of the people is over.
