Nahan, 08 December – Himachal Pradesh is set to host its first-ever international trade expo aimed at promoting the growth and development of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). This highly anticipated event will take place at the historic Chaugan Maidan from December 9 to 11, 2024, and will showcase a variety of industries with a focus on fostering MSME growth. With over 30 industries participating, including four from Punjab, the expo promises to be a landmark occasion for the state’s economic development.
Supporting MSMEs: A Platform for Growth and Innovation
The trade expo is being organized under the sponsorship of the Union Ministry of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises and is a significant step toward promoting the sector in Himachal Pradesh. The fair is set to feature a wide range of products and services, creating opportunities for MSME units to exhibit their innovations. Additionally, Self-Help Groups (SHGs) will be encouraged to participate, with a special emphasis on showcasing their products. The aim is to provide these groups with a platform to expand their reach and contribute to the state’s economic fabric.
Government Support: Aiding MSMEs and Encouraging Participation
The Himachal Pradesh Industry Minister, Harsh Vardhan Chauhan, is taking a personal interest in organizing this event and is scheduled to inaugurate the expo on December 9 at 2 pm. The fair will not only be a showcase for MSMEs but will also include displays of schemes and facilities offered by various government departments. These schemes are designed to provide crucial support to both exhibitors and attendees, ensuring that the fair serves as an essential resource for both information and business opportunities.

Special Provisions for Subsidies and Financial Assistance
A key highlight of the expo is the significant financial assistance available for participants. General category industries will receive an 80% subsidy on stall rent, while industries from SC, ST, women, Divyang, and other special categories will be granted a 100% subsidy. Furthermore, financial assistance of up to ₹25,000 will be provided for contingency expenses to all categories of exhibitors, further encouraging participation from diverse groups.
Focus on Self-Help Groups and Local Products
In a unique move, the District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) is setting up stalls at the expo to showcase products manufactured by various self-help groups and Mahila Mandals. This effort is designed to encourage local entrepreneurship and give these groups the exposure they need to grow. Additionally, other key departments such as Health, Education, Agriculture, Horticulture, and Welfare will also set up stalls to provide information about their schemes and services to the public.
PHDCCI’s Role: Driving MSME Development in Himachal
The event is being organized by the Punjab, Haryana, Delhi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI), which plays a crucial role in fostering the development and promotion of MSMEs across the region. Anil Kumar Saunkhla, Director of PHDCCI, highlighted the event’s main features, including the encouragement of self-help groups, opportunities to buy products at factory prices, and the promotion of MSMEs through available subsidies and financial assistance.
According to Saunkhla, this trade expo is expected to be a game-changer for the MSME sector in Himachal Pradesh. “The fair is designed to promote industries and self-employment opportunities, creating a positive impact on local economies and encouraging innovation,” he stated.
