With the construction of this ropeway, an additional distance of 14 kilometers will be reduced and tourists and devotees will also be able to enjoy the picturesque view of nature.
Mandi, 03 December – In a landmark event for Mandi district, Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu inaugurated the state-of-the-art Mata Baglamukhi Ropeway, set to revolutionize both tourism and pilgrimage experiences in the region. The ropeway, located on the Chandigarh-Manali National Highway, connects Pandoh to the revered Mata Baglamukhi Temple in Bakhli, offering a faster, scenic route for devotees and tourists alike.
A Technological Marvel: The 800-Meter Ropeway
The new ropeway, which spans 800 meters in length, has been constructed at an investment of ₹53.89 crore, showcasing cutting-edge technology. Based on the rigorous European CEN safety standards, the ropeway promises both safety and comfort. With the capacity to transport 600 passengers per hour, it will drastically reduce travel time, making the journey to the temple not just quicker but also more enjoyable.
“This ropeway will cover a distance of 21.6 km in an hour and provide a thrilling experience for all those who use it,” said Chief Minister Sukhu during the inauguration. The Chief Minister emphasized that the ropeway is not just a transport system but a significant attraction in itself, offering breathtaking views of the region’s natural beauty.
Enhancing the Devotional Experience
The inauguration of the Mata Baglamukhi Ropeway is expected to significantly increase footfall at the temple, especially among devotees who visit to seek blessings from the deity. The ropeway will reduce the distance to the temple by an additional 14 kilometers, making it easier for pilgrims to reach their destination.
The Chief Minister also mentioned the importance of this project in promoting sustainable tourism in the region, allowing visitors to witness the serene landscape of Himachal Pradesh while minimizing their environmental footprint. It will also enhance accessibility to the Nature Park built by the Forest Department, further attracting tourists to this picturesque area.
The Scenic Journey Over the Pandoh Dam
What sets this ropeway apart is its unique route, which will pass directly over the Pandoh Dam, offering passengers a rare aerial view of the dam and its surroundings. This feature makes it the only ropeway in the state to pass over such an iconic landmark, adding an extra layer of excitement for those traveling aboard.
“The ropeway will make the journey not just faster but an unforgettable experience,” said Sukhu, highlighting that passengers would be able to soak in the panoramic views of nature during their ride.
Boosting Local Economy and Tourism
Apart from enhancing the pilgrimage experience, the ropeway is poised to bring a substantial boost to the local economy. It is expected to create new jobs, provide local businesses with more opportunities, and contribute to the region’s growing tourism industry. With major tourist destinations like Kullu, Manali, Kasol, and Lahaul-Spiti in close proximity, the Mata Baglamukhi Ropeway will serve as a key attraction for travelers heading to these spots.
“The introduction of this ropeway will not only provide a wonderful experience for tourists but also support the local economy by facilitating easy access to nearby attractions,” said Chief Minister Sukhu, emphasizing the state’s commitment to infrastructure development and sustainable tourism.
Political Dignitaries at the Inauguration Ceremony
The inauguration was attended by several prominent political figures, including Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri, Chairman of the Mandi APMC Sanjeev Guleria, and other key leaders. The event marked a historic moment for both the tourism sector and the devotees of Mata Baglamukhi.
In his address, Deputy Chief Minister Agnihotri praised the innovative construction of the ropeway, noting that it would provide a safer and more comfortable mode of travel. “This ropeway has been built under NABARD, meeting the world’s highest safety standards, ensuring both security and reliability for all passengers,” he remarked.

This project reflects the government’s dedication to enhancing infrastructure in the state and promoting Himachal Pradesh as a premier destination for both religious tourism and eco-tourism. With its unique features, the Mata Baglamukhi Ropeway is set to become a model for future projects, combining advanced technology with the preservation of natural beauty.
