Rohru, November 30: In a heartfelt tribute to one of Himachal Pradesh’s most respected leaders, the state government has decided to rename Seema College in Rohru after the late Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh. The announcement was made during the college’s annual function by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, who lauded Singh’s immense contributions to the state, particularly his transformative impact on the Rohru region.
Seema College, established in 1998 under the leadership of Virbhadra Singh, began with just 16 students. Today, it stands as a thriving educational hub offering a wide range of courses, including Humanities, Commerce, Science, BCA, PGDCA, and various programs through IGNOU. The college’s growth is a testament to Singh’s dedication to improving education in the state, especially in rural areas.
A Visionary’s Impact on Education
Chief Minister Sukhu, in his address, highlighted Virbhadra Singh’s unwavering commitment to making education accessible to all. “Virbhadra Singh was a visionary leader whose contributions to the state’s education sector will never be forgotten,” Sukhu said. “His foresight in establishing educational institutions in rural areas like Rohru has helped shape the future of many students and empowered countless families.”
To further strengthen the college’s educational offerings, CM Sukhu also announced the introduction of a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) course at Seema College starting from the next academic session. Additionally, he pledged significant financial support for the construction of a hostel to accommodate growing numbers of students and revealed plans for a new multipurpose building to support a range of academic and extracurricular activities. These initiatives are in line with Virbhadra Singh’s vision of providing top-tier educational facilities to the youth of Himachal Pradesh.
Virbhadra Singh: A Pillar of Development
Virbhadra Singh, often referred to as the “architect of modern Himachal Pradesh,” left an indelible mark on the state with his dedication to development and welfare. As the long-serving Chief Minister, he was instrumental in the establishment of educational institutions, healthcare facilities, and vital infrastructure projects that have helped elevate the living standards of people across the state.
His connection to the Rohru constituency, which he represented for several decades, remains a deep source of pride for the region’s residents. Singh’s leadership was characterized by his focus on equitable growth, ensuring that even remote areas received the attention and resources they needed for progress.
A Lasting Tribute to a Beloved Leader
The decision to rename Seema College in honor of Virbhadra Singh has been met with widespread approval from locals, students, and alumni. Many see this as a fitting tribute to a man who dedicated his life to public service and believed in the transformative power of education. “Virbhadra Singh wasn’t just a politician; he was a mentor who believed in the future of our youth,” said a local resident. “This is a well-deserved recognition of his efforts to bring education and prosperity to our region.”
As Seema College embarks on a new chapter under its new name, it stands as a symbol of Virbhadra Singh’s enduring legacy and his lasting influence on the development of Himachal Pradesh.
