“CBI Conducts Raid on EPFO Office in Baddi, Three Arrested for Bribery”
Shimla (Himachal Pradesh), 27 November, Wednesday
Kumud Sharma, Diary Times: In a major anti-corruption operation, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) conducted a raid on the Employees Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) office in Baddi, Solan, leading to the arrest of three individuals, including the Regional PF Commissioner, an Enforcement Officer, and a consultant. The suspects were allegedly caught while accepting a bribe of ₹10 lakh to resolve a pending Provident Fund case.
The arrests followed a complaint lodged with the CBI, which claimed that the Enforcement Officer had demanded the bribe to clear the PF dues of the complainant’s company. The officer reportedly warned the company that not paying the bribe would result in a massive financial liability of ₹45-50 lakh. Acting swiftly, the CBI set up a trap, capturing the suspects in the act on November 24.
Following the arrests, the trio is now facing charges under the Prevention of Corruption Act, and the CBI has confirmed their detention. They will soon be presented before a special court for further remand.
This development brings to light the growing issue of corruption in public offices and underscores the role of investigative agencies in curbing such practices. The CBI has vowed to continue its investigations to identify any additional individuals involved in the corrupt activities.
