Shimla (Himachal Pradesh), 23 November, Saturday

Kumud Sharma, Diary Times: Shimla-based Himalayan Adventure Sports and Tourism Promotion Association (HASTPA) has been at the forefront of promoting mountain biking across the Himalayan region. Known for organizing renowned events such as the Hero Himalaya Race and various training camps, HASTPA is playing a pivotal role in fostering adventure sports while contributing to the local community and environment.

The association has a legacy of organizing celebrated biking events, including MTB Janjehli, MTB Tour De Sanawar, and the upcoming MTB Jaipur, among many others. Beyond event planning, HASTPA collaborates with the Cycling Federation of Shimla to advocate for sustainable urban cycling. Together, they have submitted proposals for the construction of cycling lanes throughout Shimla and the development of a dedicated practice track near Potter’s Hill.

A Hub for Cyclists and Nature Enthusiasts

One of HASTPA’s highlights is its Dak Bangla resort, located amidst scenic trails that provide a paradise for cycling enthusiasts. The resort is not only a retreat for riders but also serves as a base to explore the natural beauty of the region. These trails are meticulously maintained, offering a safe yet adventurous experience for bikers.

HASTPA has also established a retail hub in Kasumpati, Shimla, which caters to cycling enthusiasts by offering a range of services. Cyclists can purchase or rent bicycles and access high-quality biking gear such as helmets, gloves, grips, chains, and brake pads. Additionally, the center provides bike servicing facilities, ensuring riders are fully equipped for their journeys.

Strengthening Community Bonds

Beyond its sporting contributions, HASTPA has integrated itself into the social fabric of Shimla. The association actively participates in initiatives aimed at community welfare. Regular cleanliness drives, campaigns to promote a drug-free lifestyle, and weekend cycling trips to Shimla’s heritage sites are just a few ways the organization gives back to the community.

The HASTPA Outdoors Rider Community, a WhatsApp group created by the association, serves as a digital platform for cyclists to connect, share experiences, and plan activities. This thriving community reflects HASTPA’s commitment to nurturing camaraderie among cycling enthusiasts.

Advancing Sustainable Lifestyles

HASTPA’s vision aligns with broader environmental goals, emphasizing a lifestyle that harmonizes adventure sports with ecological preservation. Their efforts to build cycling infrastructure in Shimla not only encourage sustainable urban mobility but also reduce the environmental footprint of daily commuting.

A Call to Adventure

With a comprehensive approach that integrates sports, community welfare, and environmental sustainability, HASTPA is reshaping the perception of cycling in the Himalayan region. Whether it’s participating in a thrilling mountain biking event, joining a heritage cycling tour, or contributing to community welfare campaigns, HASTPA invites everyone to experience the joy of cycling.

For those keen to be part of this movement, HASTPA offers ample opportunities, from adventure trails at Dak Bangla to community engagement through the ‘HASTPA Outdoors Rider Community’ on WhatsApp.

Cycling in the Himalayas is no longer just a sport—it’s a lifestyle championed by HASTPA.
