Shimla, November 20: Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said here on Wednesday that all eligible women registered with the Himachal Pradesh Building and other Construction Workers Welfare Board will get Rs 4 lakh financial assistance for house construction. He said that the state government is taking initiatives to provide financial assistance to widows, disabled women and single women to fulfill their dream of building houses.

The Chief Minister said that the Himachal Pradesh Building and other Construction Workers Welfare Board is implementing various welfare schemes including financial assistance for marriage, maternity benefit, education assistance, medical care, pension, disability pension, cremation expenses, relief for accidental death, hostel facilities and widow pension. He said that the financial assistance for house construction will include Rs 3 lakh for house construction and additional assistance of Rs 1 lakh for construction of essential facilities like kitchen, toilet and bathroom.

To avail this benefit, women should be registered with the Himachal Pradesh Building and other Construction Workers Welfare Board and should have completed at least 90 working days in the last 12 months and their annual income should be less than Rs 2.50 lakh. He said that eligible women have to apply for this scheme through the labor officer along with the necessary documents. After getting approval, financial assistance will be transferred directly to the bank account of the beneficiary.

Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said that the present state government has been working for the upliftment of the deprived sections of the society for the last two years and various schemes and programs are being implemented with a positive approach for their welfare. He said that a new scheme is being worked on for the expenses of higher education of children of widows up to 27 years of age.

The Chief Minister said that Himachal Pradesh has become the first state in the country to make a law to ensure comprehensive care and assistance for orphan children. He said that under this initiative, 6,000 orphans have been adopted as ‘Children of the State’ and the government is committed to ensure their welfare and education to help them become self-reliant.
