Heartiest congratulations to my friend: PM Modi writes to Trump on big win in US
PM Modi says he looks forward to renewing cooperation to further strengthen India-US comprehensive global and strategic partnership
New Delhi: While the US election vote counting trends were pointing towards a clear victory for the Republicans, Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Donald Trump on his return as President. Describing Trump as “my friend”, the Prime Minister said in a post on X, “Heartiest congratulations to my friend @realDonaldTrump on your historic electoral victory.”
“As you build on the successes of your previous tenure, I look forward to renewing our cooperation to further strengthen the India-US comprehensive global and strategic partnership. Let us all work together for the betterment of our people and to promote global peace, stability and prosperity,” he said.
Donald Trump is on the verge of a big win in what was believed to be a close election. The Republicans managed to flip all seven battleground states in their favour – an astonishing feat, as the Democrats won them 6-1 in the 2020 election.
Addressing his supporters, when poll projections pointed towards his victory, Trump said it was a “great victory for the American people”. He also referred to the July 13 assassination attempt and said “God saved my life for a reason”.
Describing the Republican campaign as the “greatest political movement ever”, Trump said, “We’re going to help heal our country, heal our borders, we made history tonight for a reason. We’ve won the most incredible political victory. I want to thank the American people. I will fight for you and your family with every breath in my body.”
Trump said the Democrats are now looking at a massive electoral vote score of 315.
What makes the Republicans’ victory even bigger is that they have also taken control of the Senate and are leading in the House of Representatives elections.
In his victory speech, Trump thanked his supporters, running mate JD Vance, wife Melanie Trump and his children for their support in this challenging campaign. He also thanked Tesla CEO and ex-boss Elon Musk, who has been expressing support for Trump.
