At least 20 people killed as bus falls into gorge in Uttarakhand’s Almora district
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has said that the district administration has been asked to expedite the rescue operation.
Dehradun: The death toll in the bus accident in Uttarakhand’s Almora district has risen to 20. According to district officials, a 45-seater passenger bus on its way from Garhwal to Kumaon fell into a 200-metre deep gorge at Marchula this morning. Police and the State Disaster Response Force have launched a rescue operation at the accident site.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has said that the district administration has been asked to expedite the rescue operation. “Extremely sad news has been received about casualties of passengers in the unfortunate bus accident that took place at Marchula in Almora district. The district administration has been directed to expedite relief and rescue operations,” he said on X.
The Chief Minister said, “The local administration and SDRF teams are working swiftly to rescue the injured and take them to the nearest health center for treatment. Instructions have also been given to airlift the seriously injured passengers if needed.”
The Chief Minister has ordered the suspension of the RTO officials of the area. He has announced a compensation of Rs 4 lakh each to the families of those killed in the accident and Rs 1 lakh each to the injured. A magisterial inquiry has also been ordered.
