New Delhi: The Israel Defense Forces have released drone footage of Hamas chief Yahya Sinwar’s “last moments”. The video shows Sinwar sitting on a couch surrounded by debris inside a damaged and dilapidated house. In his last moments, he is seen throwing an object at a drone.

“Yahya Sinwar, the mass murderer responsible for the October 7 massacre and atrocities, was killed by IDF (Israeli army) soldiers,” Foreign Minister Israel Katz said in a statement.

Later, the IDF released a video message of its spokesman RADM Daniel Hagri, talking about Sinwar’s killing and Israel’s operational goals in Gaza.

He said, “Sinwar was responsible for the most brutal attack against Israel in our history. When terrorists from Gaza attacked Israel, Israelis were slaughtered in their homes, our women were raped, entire families were burned alive and more than 250 men, women, children and infants were taken hostage to Gaza. 101 hostages are still in captivity under cruel conditions for the past year.”

Mr. Hagri said Sinwar tried to escape justice but he failed, but the Israeli army did.

Blaming him for waging a war with Israel by hiding behind civilians in Gaza, Mr. Hagri reiterated, “Our war is with Hamas, not with the people of Gaza and we understand what that means.”

He said, “We are working to increase the amount of humanitarian aid including food, water and medicine going to Gaza, to the people of Gaza who are suffering because of Yahya Sinwar,” and expressed condolences to the families of those killed or kidnapped because of Sinwar.

“We bow our heads and remember how brave soldiers made the ultimate sacrifice to protect the Israeli people,” he said.

The IDF “will not rest” until they bring back all the hostages “by any means.”

“We will continue to work until we have completed all our missions in defense of the Israeli people,” he added.

“Although this is not the end of the war in Gaza, it is the beginning of the end,” said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who vowed to crush Hamas at the start of the war. He had earlier called Sinwar’s death “an important milestone in the fall of Hamas’ evil regime.”

The late Sinwar is said to have masterminded the October 7 attack, the deadliest in Israel’s history, which resulted in the deaths of 1,206 people, most of them civilians, according to an AFP tally of official Israeli figures that includes hostages who died in captivity.
