Himachal’s son Rakesh Rana martyred in helicopter crash, body found in Arabian Sea after 40 days
The body of Kangra pilot Rakesh Kumar Rana, who was martyred while serving the country in Porbandar, Gujarat, has been recovered after 40 days. 38-year-old Rakesh went missing while serving the country in the Arabian Sea.
Dharamshala, October 13: The body of Kangra pilot Rakesh Kumar Rana, who was martyred while serving the country in Porbandar, Gujarat, has been recovered after 40 days. 38-year-old Rakesh went missing while serving the country in the Arabian Sea.
Rakesh Rana was a resident of Barwal Khad village in Chadhiyar area of Kangra. His helicopter ALH MK-3 crashed on September 2 during relief operations amid heavy rains in Gujarat. There were four people on board the helicopter at the time of the accident.
The Indian Coast Guard and the Indian Navy promptly launched a search operation, under which one crew member was rescued, while the bodies of two others, Commander Vipin Babu and Senior Sailor Karan Singh, were recovered after the accident.
A continuous search operation was carried out to find Rakesh Rana, but he could not be traced. After 40 days of relentless search, his body was found in the Arabian Sea, about 55 km from Porbandar.
Rakesh Rana’s sudden demise has sent a wave of grief across the region. He was given a final farewell with military honors in Gujarat.
