“Sanjoy Roy raped and murdered Kolkata doctor”: CBI chargesheet in RG Kar case
RG Kar case: Statements of nearly 200 people have been recorded in the chargesheet, which names Sanjoy Roy as the prime accused, CBI sources said.
KOLKATA: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has charged Sanjoy Roy, who worked as a contract employee with Kolkata Police, in the rape and murder of a woman doctor who was on duty at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. The central agency will file the chargesheet in a special court in Sealdah this afternoon.
The accused civic volunteer allegedly committed the crime when the doctor went to rest in the seminar room of the hospital during a break, officials said.
According to CBI sources, statements of nearly 200 people have been recorded in the chargesheet, which names Roy as the prime accused. They said investigations are still on to ascertain whether there were multiple suspects and whether it was a case of gang rape.
The doctor was found dead in the hospital on August 9 and subsequent investigations revealed the horror that had befallen her. Amid nationwide protests, the court had asked the CBI to take over the probe.
Roy, a frequent visitor to the hospital, was arrested a day later by the Kolkata police. When the police handed him over to the CBI, they handed over the evidence along with other evidence.
The then principal of the college, Sandip Ghosh, has also been arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the CBI in two separate cases of financial irregularities and tampering with evidence.
The victim’s colleagues, who have been protesting for two months demanding justice in the RG Kar case and enhanced security for doctors, are now on a hunger strike.
