Hamirpur, September 29: Congress has suffered a shock in the by-election of Ward No. 7 of Sujanpur Municipal Council. BJP candidate Neerja Thakur defeated Congress candidate Suman Atwal by 93 votes.

Sub-division and Election Officer Dr. Rohit Sharma informed that three candidates were in the fray for the post of councillor in Sujanpur Municipal Council Ward No. 7. The voting percentage was 72.68 percent. The voting process lasted from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.

637 voters were registered for the by-election in which 463 voters cast their votes which included 229 male and 234 female voters. Candidate Neerja Thakur, who contested the election, got 276 votes, while Suman Atwal got 183 and Sarwar Kumar got one vote, while three votes were cast in NOTA.

Neerja Thakur has thanked BJP leader and former MLA Rajendra Rana, Sujanpur BJP Mandal President Professor Vikram Rana, former president Captain Jyoti Prakash, BJP leader Lekhraj Thakur and other party leaders for this victory.
