Solan 16 September: A massive landslide hit the Kalka-Shimla highway near Kumarhatti in Himachal Pradesh’s Solan district on Friday, causing major traffic disruptions. The landslide was triggered when a wall built on a hill collapsed, spilling a large amount of boulders and debris on the road.

The landslide blocked one lane of the four-lane highway, forcing the administration to divert traffic to another lane. Fortunately, no vehicle was passing through the affected portion when the wall collapsed, preventing anyone from getting injured or causing damage to vehicles.

Apart from blocking traffic, the landslide has also posed a threat to a nearby house, raising concerns among residents. Police personnel have been deployed in the area, and efforts are on to ensure safe movement of vehicles on the remaining lanes.

Though there have been no major casualties, the administration is closely monitoring the site to assess any other risks. Traffic on the Kalka-Shimla highway is affected, and people have been advised to follow safety protocols and diversions.

The Kalka-Shimla highway, an important route for both locals and tourists travelling to Himachal Pradesh, has witnessed several incidents of landslides in the past, raising concerns about the stability of some sections of the road, especially during the monsoon season. Local authorities are expected to take further steps to prevent future incidents and ensure the safety of travellers.
