Solan, September 11: Police today arrested two more students in the case of ragging at Bahra University, Kandaghat, Himachal Pradesh. Earlier also three students have been arrested. This incident has also raised questions on the security and the inactivity of the Anti Ragging Committee in the university. The arrested students have been identified as Kartik (19), son of Praveen Kumar, resident of Sunarli, Ghumarwin, District Bilaspur and Saksham (22), son of Ram Lal, resident of Palana, Theog, District Shimla. Both these students are also from the university.

Questions raised on the inactivity of the Anti Ragging Committee

After this incident, questions are being raised whether the Anti Ragging Committee of the University was inactive, this matter was not of one day, but was going on for a long time, despite which no concrete action was taken on it in time. After the Aman Kachru case, the formation of anti-ragging committees was made mandatory in professional colleges and universities, so that incidents like ragging could be stopped. But it is seen that now it is formed in institutions only for formality.

The committee members also have to inspect the students’ hostels from time to time. But here liquor was easily reaching the hostel rooms. Therefore, it is natural for questions to arise. The seriousness of this matter is also because the videos of the beating of the victim student are also going viral.

Three students have already been arrested in this case and now after the arrest of two other accused, the police is investigating the involvement. Further action is being taken against these students arrested by the police and their previous criminal records can also be investigated.

The police is busy investigating this matter and trying to find out who else can be involved in this incident. The police investigation will also reveal whether the University Administration and the Anti-Ragging Committee discharged their responsibilities properly or not. SP Gaurav Singh said that a thorough investigation is underway.

Anyway, this case has once again drawn attention to the serious problem of ragging. This incident at Bahara University has left a lesson for educational institutions that safety measures should not be taken lightly and anti-ragging rules should be strictly followed.
