TOKYO, Aug 20: Three teenagers aged between 16 and 19 have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after they brutally attacked a man at a park in Japan’s Osaka Prefecture, local media reported on Tuesday.
Osaka Prefecture police on Monday arrested a 16-year-old resident of Tokyo’s Kita Ward, a 19-year-old living in Osaka’s Naniwa Ward and another 19-year-old of unknown address for allegedly attacking and attempting to murder a 22-year-old man, news agency Xinhua reported, citing Japanese daily Mainichi Shimbun.
The incident occurred at around 10:30 p.m. local time on August 18, when the victim, identified as Ryuya Onaka, a resident of Kyoto’s Ukyo Ward, was found lying unconscious in a park in Toyonaka city with blood flowing from his mouth.
He was immediately hospitalized, where he remains in a coma, the report said.
The teenagers are accused of attempting to kill Onaka by punching him in the head and kicking him. Onaka has been diagnosed with an acute subdural hematoma, the report said.
The victim and the suspect are believed to have met at a gathering spot in Osaka’s Minami district, a place frequented by young people.
According to police, several witnesses saw a group of men and women attack the victim before fleeing the scene. Some accomplices are reported to be at large, the report said.
Police have not said whether the suspects have admitted to the charges.
