Chief Minister paid emotional tribute to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi

On the occasion of Sadbhavna Diwas, CM Sukhu on Tuesday paid tribute to former Prime Minister Bharat Ratna Rajiv Gandhi by offering floral tribute to his statue at Rajiv Chowk in Chhota Shimla on the occasion of his birth anniversary.

Shimla, August 20: On the occasion of Sadbhavna Diwas, CM Sukhu on Tuesday paid tribute to former Prime Minister Bharat Ratna Rajiv Gandhi by offering floral tribute to his statue at Rajiv Chowk in Chhota Shimla on the occasion of his birth anniversary. On this occasion, the Chief Minister also administered the Sadbhavna Diwas oath to the officers and employees of Himachal Pradesh Secretariat.

The Chief Minister said that the nation knows late Rajiv Gandhi as the creator of modern India. During his tenure as Prime Minister, he took many visionary decisions to change the thinking of the people and the society. He said that during the tenure of late Rajiv Gandhi as Prime Minister, he was the President of the National Students Union of India (NSUI). On the demand of NSUI, Rajiv Gandhi reduced the age of use of voting rights of youth from 21 years to 18 years, so that the youth of the country can ensure active participation in the democratic process. This was the biggest achievement of his tenure.

Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said that as a result of Rajiv Gandhi’s farsighted decisions, today India has emerged as a leading country in the field of information technology. He said that when America rejected India’s demand for a supercomputer, then under his strong leadership the country took decisive steps to bring revolutionary changes in the field of information technology. He strongly advocated the rights of women in the democratic process and 33 percent reservation was given in Panchayati Raj institutions. Senior Congress leader Sonia Gandhi raised her voice for 33 percent reservation for women in the Assembly and Parliament.

On this occasion, Health Minister Dr. (Colonel) Dhani Ram Shandil, Education Minister Rohit Thakur, Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee President Pratibha Singh, Chief Parliamentary Secretaries Mohan Lal Brakta and Sanjay Awasthi, Himachal Pradesh Building and Construction Workers Welfare Board Chairman Nardev Kanwar, Himuda Vice President Yashwant Chhajta, Shimla Municipal Corporation Mayor Surender Chauhan, Deputy Mayor Uma Kaushal, councillors, Chief Minister’s OSD Ritesh Kapret and other dignitaries were present.
