Shimla, August 15: Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla hoisted the national flag at the Raj Bhavan campus here today on the occasion of 78th Independence Day. Lady Governor Janaki Shukla was also present on this occasion. The Governor congratulated the people on Independence Day and wished happiness and prosperity to the people of the state. He said that this is a historic day when the nation got freedom from the slavery of foreign empire. He said that the sacrifices of countless freedom fighters and the struggles of brave sons have given us independence.

The Governor said that on Independence Day we salute all the patriots. We also salute those brave sons who made the supreme sacrifice to maintain the unity and integrity of the country and protect the borders of the country after independence.

Wishing the progress and all-round development of the state, he said that we all should take a pledge that we will discharge our duties for the progress of the nation and the state with more dedication and commitment. He said that for the last few years, natural disasters have been continuously affecting the lives of people in Himachal.

He appealed to the people to contribute to environmental protection as well as ensure active participation in the ‘Ek Boota Maa Ke Naam’ campaign launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said that we all should make collective efforts to make the country a developed nation. On this occasion, the Governor also presented national flags to the employees of the Raj Bhavan. Lady Governor Janaki Shukla and Secretary to the Governor Rajesh Sharma were also present on the occasion.
