Two professors from Punjab accused of taking bribe, arrested in Dharamshala

Dharamshala, August 12: The State Vigilance and Anti Corruption Bureau team has carried out a major operation based on secret information in the area under Rakkar police station in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh. During this, a Creta car with Punjab number was stopped, in which two persons were riding. Initial investigation revealed that both these persons are residents of Punjab and are working as professors in prestigious universities there.
The persons detained have been identified as Rakesh Chawla, resident New Flats GSS Complex Colony, Faridkot, and Puneet Kumar, resident KC Road Colony, District Barnala, Punjab. Rs 3.5 lakh in cash has been recovered from both of them, the source of which they could not explain.
According to sources, these professors had recently inspected the Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research of a university located in Palampur area. They were appointed by the Pharmacy Council of India for this work. The vigilance department suspects that these professors may have taken bribe to avail illegal benefits from the institute.
The State Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau, Dharamshala has registered a case in the matter under Section 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act 1988 (Amendment 2018). Both the professors were arrested yesterday evening and investigation in the case is still on. This incident has raised serious concerns about corruption in the education sector.
