Landslide disrupts traffic on Chandigarh-Manali highway; road cleared after 7 hours
After tireless efforts, the administration cleared the debris and opened the road for traffic at around 10:30 am.

Mandi, 08 August: The Chandigarh-Manali national highway was closed for over seven hours on Thursday morning due to a landslide at 9-Mile, leaving several vehicles stranded. The landslide, which occurred around 3:00 am, left trucks and jeeps buried under the debris. Fortunately, the drivers managed to escape to safety before the situation worsened.
The water level of a nearby ravine also rose rapidly in Kuklah due to heavy rains triggered by the landslide, further complicating the situation. Several vehicles got stuck in the rising waters, including a jeep stuck in the middle. The driver rescued himself after a lot of effort.
The traffic near Bindravani and Army Transit Camp came to a standstill due to the highway jam at 9-Mile. After tireless efforts, the administration cleared the debris and opened the road for traffic at around 10:30 am.
ASP Mandi Sagar Chandra confirmed that the highway has been fully restored and traffic is now moving smoothly under the supervision of the police team to ensure safety.
Meanwhile, the Shimla-based Meteorological Centre has predicted that rain will continue across the state till August 14. An orange alert for heavy rain has been issued for August 10 and 11, while a yellow alert has been issued for August 8-9 and August 12-14. Residents and tourists have been advised to stay away from rivers and streams due to the increased risk of floods and landslides.
